When you first walk into Bhandaris, the stresses of outside are left at the door as you step into a treasure room of tranquillity and beauty. Forgetting that you are actually in Cape Town, you can escape to a taste of India inside this cave.
The trickling water, smell of spice and gentle glow of candles are a typical resemblance of eastern culture that is going to treat your senses to something delicious.
After you have been seated by one of the many welcoming and peaceful faces, prepare to begin. To start your Bhandaris experience you are presented with a wide array of starters to wet your appetite for the indulgence ahead. Pick from light vegetarian to spicy meat or slightly heavier cheese (Paneer) - to get you going. All dishes are wonderfully presented delicately placed on your plate freshly off the skewer. I recommend trying the spicy mushrooms that have a perfect texture with a tasty touch.

After the introduction has been cleared choose from the vast choice of curry for your main. A popular habit when eating Indian food is for people to stick to what they know. Don’t deprive yourself and have basic when you can have luxury. Bhandaris is such an authentic and talented restaurant you must take advantage! If you were ever going to try new dishes anywhere you might as well start with the best here and be educated from there. Indians rarely stick to one type of food on their plate and love to mix and match and pick and compliment many but smaller portions of all different colours textures and spices. Bhandaris has such a vibrant kitchen and menu it supplies endless traditional and new choices to supply you with. The unique thing about the food at Bhandaris is that many of the key and special ingredients are imported straight from India. The kitchen manager Ahmad welcomes many guests in the restaurant area out the kitchen, and his passion for the food can be felt radiating from him as he talks and describes the menu. This man that also was a chef speaks for Surrender Singh Bhandari himself- whom has such acute skill in Indian cooking you cannot only be assured to get the very best, but that special extra quality that you will not find anywhere else. Ask Ahmad about the food or which dish he recommends and prepare yourself to be blown away by his intense energy and expertise about the dish that suits you.

Bhandaris is a celebrity hotspot for many. Mark Boucher, Jacques Kallis and many other cricket players come to feast as well as other celebrities and sporting athletes. Cricket players spend so long in India for matches that they can tell good healthy Indian cooking when they taste it…fit for the best.
Bar area/Private area
A feature that makes Bhandaris different from most Indian restaurants is its luxurious bar area. Once you have finished your meal and all your many various cravings are satisfied you can stroll over to the partitioned room attached. Welcome to the bar area where you can sit and enjoy tea, an iced drink or even steal a nightcap.
This bar is deigned for you to relax, take your time finishing your experience and to have a change of beautiful scenery before you leave.
Right next to this area is a Private Function area that is usually opened as eating space on regular nights but is available for hire. This entirely soundproof glass room overlooking the restaurant and with its own precious décor can be used for functions and holds up to 60 people.
